The 16th World Saxophone Congress will take place in St. Andrews, Scotland in 2012. Reed Music composer and saxophonist Barry Cockcroft has been elected to the International Saxophone Committee along with Claude Delangle (France), Kenneth Tse (USA), Andy Scott (UK), Shyen Lee (Thailand) and Thomas Liley (USA). Reed Music offers its congratulations to Richard Ingham (UK), director of the next congress and is looking forward to offering its support for this important event.

The university town of St Andrews is an exceptionally attractive location for an event of this sort. The university’s beautiful main concert hall seats nearly 1000 and there are convenient rehearsal facilities, a wide variety of performance venues of all sizes, and plentiful accommodation and restaurants all within easy walking distance in this charming and ancient coastal town. The congress proposal is supported by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, other UK conservatoires such as the Royal College of Music, The Royal Northern College of Music, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, leading soloists and composers, the National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain and the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain. The World Saxophone Congress coincides with the University’s 600th anniversary celebrations and with the Olympic Games in London.

Reed Music is continually searching for new ways to create quality publications with minimal environmental impact. As governments procrastinate worldwide, it remains the responsibility of individuals and business to make the small changes that can have a global cumulative impact.

Reed Music has begun the significant process of conversion to high quality recycled paper made from 100% post-consumer waste. All new publications are printed on this new paper and existing publications are in conversion as existing stocks are depleted. Laminated non-recyclable covers are being replaced with sturdy non laminated covers. All publications are printed locally saving on transport costs and carbon emissions. In our newest mass market books even the ink is vegetable based avoiding the use of petroleum products.
