Bryan Hooley

A graduate of the Canberra School of Music and the Canberra College of Advanced Education, Bryan has been composing, arranging, singing, performing and teaching in the region for many years.  With respect to perfomance he specialises in clarinet, flute and saxophone and currently holds down the bari sax chair of the ConneXion Big Band in Canberra. He is also the assistant director for the band.

Bryan has directed a number of student-based clarinet and saxophone choirs and has arranged many pieces for these groups.

Bryan's range of musical interests is wide and his compositional and arranging output reflects this as it crosses many stylistic boundaries.  He has written for male quartet and other vocal combinations, concert and big bands, rondalla orchestra, bass guitar, chamber music of various kinds, and numerous folk, gospel and pop songs.  He encourages his own students to write and has arranged a number of their better offerings for wider exposure.  Some of these arrangements are currently listed on the flute, clarinet and saxophone ANZCA syllabuses.
