Raffaele Marcellino graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with merit in 1985. Since that time his music has been performed by many prominent ensembles and organisations including Synergy, The Sydney, Adelaide & Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, The Sydney Front, Pipeline, The Australian National Academy of Music, The Australian Museum, Adelaide Festival, Melbourne Festival, Nouvel Ensemble Modern, The Song Company and the Seymour Group.

In 1995 Raffaele was appointed to the staff of the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music and served as Director from 1996-1998 resuming normal teaching duties in 1999. In 2000 Maze for 15 musicians was performed by Ensemble Modern in September during the International Society of Contemporary Music World Music Days in Luxembourg. Bach: a sonic exhibition, co-curated with Greg White, was premiered by the Seymour Group in November. Heart of Fire, commissioned by ABC Sport for the 2000 Paralympics, was released as a CD single on ABC Classics. The Flight of Les Darcy, an opera, will be premiered in 2001 at the 10 Days on the Island Festival, Hobart Tasmania. The DËšdalus Sequences, cycle for solo piano, will be performed by Ian Munro in 2001.

Other recent premieres include: The Art of Resonance: tuba concerto, performed by Steve Ross and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra On Eagles Wings at the International Tuba Conference University of Minnesota and Zerflie§e mein Herze performed by Ian Munro, Christian Wojtowicz, Tom O'Kelly and DavidMalone and featured in SBS Fork in the Road episode featuring Tasmania Voicejam and Video at the 1998 Adelaide Festival and Logos by the Sydney Chamber Choir. In 1999 the prestigious Paul Lowin Song Cycle prize was awarded to Canticle, for singers, actors and large ensemble and premiered at the 1999 Brisbane Cathedrals Week Festival. Publications of Raffaele's music are available through Reed Music, Currency Press, Opus House Press, Red House Editions, Grevillea Press and ABC Classics.
