The 2008 Reed Music Festival Competition
Artisitic Director: Barry Cockcroft
Welcome to the innaugral Reed Music Festival website. This exciting new competition gives clarinet & saxophone players the chance to compete for great cash prizes playing superb Australian music. There are 6 sections, inluding 4 sections for solo performers and 2 sections for quartets. There are no time limits, just a selection of great pieces in a variety of styles with a broad range of difficulty within each section.
For 12 years & under and 15 years & under, each player must play a piece with piano. All the music comes from great value books with several pieces to choose from so it is easy to find the ideal piece to play. You will see familiar composers including Lachlan Davidson, John Barrett, Stuart Greenbaum, Paul Marhshall & Taran Carter.
For 18 years & under and 30 years & under, each player must play 1 piece with piano and 1 solo piece. The set lists have a broad range of standards including music from the VCE and the new AMEB Saxophone for Leisure Syllabus. There are also several new pieces written recently and demanding pieces for the advanced musican.
As you browse through the set lists, you can listen to audio samples of many of the pieces and also preview a sample from the scores so you can decide if it is the right music before you purchase anything.
If you require a pianist, Adam Pinto, who I perform with in rompduo will be available for rehearsals and the competition. Adam has played all of this music and will be taking bookings leading up the competition.
The winners of this competition will go to the players who perform the most convincing interpretation of the music that they have selected. My advice when selecting music is that it is always best to perform music that you can really play rather than to fumble your way through the hardest piece you can find.
Places are strictly limited, so enter early to avoid missing out. Best of luck in preparation for this exciting new competition.
