Yānada is dedicated to the oboist Diana Doherty, who gave the first performance on March 1st 1999 in the Sydney Conservatorium Recital Hall.
It is often associated with its companion piece, Ulpirra. Originally published as Two Pieces for Solo Oboe, Yānada and Ulpirra are performed today, widely and frequently, by all the other instruments of the woodwind family.
Mysterious and hauntingly melodic, Yānada takes its title from a word meaning moon in an Aboriginal language of the Sydney area.
