Andy Firth is an Australian clarinet and saxophone virtuoso, composer, arranger and educator, widely regarded as one of the finest reed players performing today. Equally fluent in classical and jazz idioms, he has appeared with leading orchestras, chamber ensembles and jazz artists, and was named Australia’s Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year in 2006. In 2008 he headlined a tribute to the great jazz clarinettists at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall alongside legendary clarinettist Buddy DeFranco, and he was the clarinet soloist on Baz Luhrmann’s film “Australia”. A prolific composer with hundreds of works to his name, in 2018 he founded the publishing house Andy Firth Music, which issues his books, solos and ensemble pieces. He teaches privately with his wife Liz from their studios in Newcastle, NSW.
